We recently were approached to take a series of our colour photos and transpose the presentation to sepia. The client wanted a series of photos to look like older prints. We decided to call this "The Reflections Series" and proceeded to select a series of photos that would take to the sepia-old-photo approach and make a strong statement. To do this we went back to the RAW picture files to start (as we always do) and then proceeded with Photoshop to work the artistic results, including adding a grainy texturing quality to the finished print. The process take time. The result is quite captivating. The "Reflections Series" is available now at The Picket Fence on Manitoba Street Bracebridge and you will be able to see more selections in our gallery section shortly.
"The Just a Dab" series! People love black and white photos. Our new "Just a Dab" series starts with the colour photo so it goes through the process beginning with the RAW file, into black and white and then "Just a Dab" of colour is re-introduced to highlight a significant focal point or points within the photo. The result of subtle colour within the black and white is quite spectacular. The Picket Fence is featuring a selection of the "Just a Dab" series in 8 x 10 size framed, so drop by their location on Manitoba street (by the lights) in downtown Bracebridge. The "Just a Dab" series is available and will be added to our gallery section shortly.
The reaction to the "Just a Dab" series has been quite unique. The addition of colour into the black and white print adds an artistic element of understatement that draws the viewer into the picture and seems to add story to the scene. This we find is not available by just grabbing a picture and adding back a bit of colour. The picture must be taken with the finished thought in mind.
November saw a flash back in time project capture a good deal of our attention. Contact from a broadcast associate working on the acquisitions committee for the Canadian Broadcast Museum Foundation started a search through old tape material for air-checks from decades ago working at a classic rock station in the early sixties. Success! I delivered the tapes and other material dating back in time to Toronto where it will be digitized for posterity. I spend little time looking in the rear view mirror but this session was quite enjoyable and I look forward to hearing what is salvaged and digitized.
